Eco Local

Sticky

Eco+Local (the many ways that Print Renegades tries to keep up with our responsibility to support local businesses and favor our environment in all our business decisions) SUPPORT LOCAL: Several studies have shown that when you buy from an independent, locally owned business, rather than a nationally owned businesses, significantly more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers and farms -- continuing to strengthen the economic base of that community. Additionally, locally owned businesses can make more local purchases requiring less transportation and generally set up shop in town or city centers as opposed to developing on the fringe. This generally means contributing less to sprawl, congestion, habitat loss and pollution. (Studies of economic impact studies of local support can be found HERE: http://www.ilsr.org/key-studies-walmart-and-bigbox-retail/ )   We tirelessly support our fellow local businesses in any way possible because that is what we hope for all local

Art Specs

Art Specifications: (everything you need to know about art prep, accepted file types and high res images) File Types: The “best” file types to send us are the original files. If your design was drawn or designed in Adobe Illustrator, the original Adobe Illustrator (ai) file is the “best”. If your design was made in Adobe Photoshop (psd), then send us that file with all the layers. With that said, we accept the following file types in order or priority; Adobe Illustrator (.ai), Encapsulated Post Script (.eps), Adobe Photoshop (.psd), Adobe PDF (.pdf), JPEG (.jpg), Portable Network Graphic (.png), or Tag Interleave Format (.tiff). Vector files are preferable since they are easily resizable without any degradation in image quality. Grindin’

After what has been an insanely busy couple of months, we've gotten a small breather. We've finally reached a point where our job board is not overflowing with work orders onto the table next to it. We might actually have some time to work on a few projects we've been trying to complete! If you follow our Instagram, you may have seen we have a new coffee bar set up for our customers. We bought a very cool automatic espresso machine that makes some very fancy drinks along with all the accouterments that one might possibly need to make the coffee of their dreams. So come on by to check it out, even if all you want is coffee. We'll be happy to fire it up for you! Along with our fancy espresso machine, we've gotten some other new toys that we'll be happy to show you once they've been set up and

Where Did January Go?

Sticky

Hey guys! Your friendly neighborhood Renegades here, and can you believe that it's already well into February? WTF right? A lot of things happened this last month and downtown LA has been buzzin with activity. Lot's of people expressing themselves with printed materials (if you catch our drift). We're always happy to lend a hand to those who feel the need to wear their opinion on their shirt. We have a feeling we'll be printing more stuff like this in the coming months. Stay tuned. We also had a chance to get to ISS last month and check all the latest and greatest in garment decoration as well as taking in some seminars and classes to bone up on our skills. It was cool to see screen printers and other garment decorators from all over the country there in different capacities as well as some familiar faces. It was a very wet weekend

The Price Is Wrong, Bitch!!

Sticky

Printing sometimes can be really fun! We were hit up by a few friends to print their shirts for The Price Is Right. (everyone has to go at least once, right??). And, of course who else did they call than Print Renegades! (although our main focus is more about helping artists, start ups, restaurants, non profits and clothing brands, sometimes its fun to do something silly and fun). The print was actually pretty complicated, a 4 color screen print WITH Foil (and only 10 pieces). Normally our minimum order of 10 pieces is for 1 or 2 color designs, but we made an exception from 25 pcs (3-4 color prints) to 10 pieces for these kids.Printing with foil inside of a design, where not everything is getting foiled, is difficult because the ink around the part not being foiled has to be a different type of ink than the ink that is being foiled.

Westwood Music Sign Printing

Sticky

Westwood Music is the local music store of the West LA area that has all of the small town local guitar shop feel with none of the corporate guitar shop feel. It might be a time warp back to the 1990s when you walk in, but there is no question that you get addressed by a REAL guitar player who knows about every single guitar hanging in that shop and loves what they do and isnt only there to sell sell sell. WW Music needed some new signs for their store, so they called us to help them with out with getting better signage for their windows. We suggested printing on coroplast signs, since this corrugated plastic material is inexpensive, is durable and lasts thru years of sunlight (which is what their signs will be through sitting in a window for ages). We decided on 4 different signs, each with a different saying

Hardcore Til I Die Booty Shorts

Sticky

Our friends over at Rave Ready have some awesome things going: rave clothing for the EDM at heart. They have a great niche market and do really well for what they do. From a printers perspective, they are always trying new and crazy things, really wanting to push the boundaries and putting us printers to the test by pushing the limits of our knowledge at all times. This last job they wanted to print Booty Shorts...not too crazy of a job but definitely not as simple as a Tshirt print. We helped them layout their artwork so that we split the design they had into 2 separate parts so that none of the artwork went over top of the middle seam (since we all know that would just lead to inconsistencies in the print). We also made sure to get a 100% cotton short so that we could use a Pro Discharge White

Large Format Fabric Printing for Superbowl 2014

Sticky

Superbowl time has come: and so has the time for the amazing commercials that are made just for that one single game. We had the chance to print some fabric for the Pistachio Wonderful Superbowl commercial (as seen HERE). Our main man Stephen Colbert is staring in the commercial, with his eagle costar, wearing a custom made suit that we printed. We were given the feat to print multicolored prints on a large roll of fabric. Although this was superbly impossible for most printers to take on, we feel differently about custom jobs as this one, and we took this job on, ready to rock it! STEP 1: Prepping - Doing this wasn't easy, as we weren't set up for it and really had to improvise with our materials and process of getting this done. First step: Getting a pallet (table) to attach to the press in order to print on, and fit

We Love a Good Challenge – Part I

We count ourselves lucky for having had the opportunity to work on some seriously fun, unique and challenging projects that are beyond t-shirts. We like to keep pushing the boundaries of what we can screen print on and get ourselves thinking outside the box. Screen printing is such a versatile medium with inks that work on lots of different surfaces - by the way, we use only vegan and eco-friendly inks which has lots of good going not just for the environment but for us, too. It's free of harmful chemicals and with no traces of resin or plastic commonly found in traditional inks some screen printers still use to this day. Here are some of our most challenging and unique projects to date: PACKAGING: Client: Pizzanista Project: Pizza Box Client: Stamina Project: Energy Powder Read our post on this here. That's why we continue to keep an open door policy and we make sure to respond to your inquiries as quickly as possible. So as we wrap up this month, we hope to see you at the shop! Lots more stuff in the works as we grow. Stay tuned to see what we're up to!
